Welcome to Texas!
I felt strange saying that... having been here for some time but still just less than a year. Oh well, I in Texas now, so let me try that one more time and give you a proper Texan welcome...
Blog Around The World guests! I think you know US history and how Texas came about better than I do so I'll probably avoid that. Perhaps the other Texan bloggers will cover that. :)
Instead, let's just have a little Texan geography here and hear towns called Turkey and ranches called Deep Sh*t:
Isn't YouTube great? I would have not known of that song if it wasn't for YouTube (and of course, the maker of the clip who travelled 10,641 miles so that I do not have to!).
I dug more on the song "I've Been Everywhere" and it seems that it has been adapted to a lot of places - the original being in Australia.
Anyway, I digress. Let me continue with my welcome ...
Just to make sure that the previous clip did not give you the impression of Texas being just all roads, here's a Tribute to Texas:
Anyway, I live in Austin - the capital city of Texas. But I have to admit I am beyond city limits where you see miles and miles of live oaks, cedar and pecan trees; and where you see large birds always flying above. The Hill Country, as Texans lovingly say.
Anyhow, Austin is also the "music capital of the world". That's where you get all that live music shown in PBS :) And on the last weekend of this month, the Austin City Limits Music Festival is on!!!
If you cannot make it, here are some photos of the 10-feet guitars around town which were installed as public art last year. They were made by local artists, sponsored by companies and signed by supposedly well-known folks!
There are supposedly 50 of them but I have 35 here only. (I hope I don't get into trouble pulling these stuff from the net!)
And here's a sampling of Austin places to go visit!
Meanwhile, enjoy a little taste of Texas today and come back soon!
Did I just day little? That's not acceptable in Texas, so...
Get a BIG taste of Texas today!

Ooh, Austin. My husband traveled there for business and thought it was a wonderful place to visit. Some of our dear friends from his law school days live there, so I hope to tag along someday when he makes another trip out there. Thanks for the tour!

What a great Post. You did an awesome job. We live in Houston. My girls and I told Buster (husband/father) we want to go to Austin in October. The kids have a day off school so we may head up there. I enjoyed your slide show. All the You Tube downloads were great. Fun Reading!

I'm sure Austin is great (I've heard so much about it) but it has one HUGE drawback: the Texas Longhorns.
Boomer Sooner!
It's neat to see glimpses of different states. Texas seems really BIG and pretty cool. I've heard that Austin and San Antonio are good places to visit.

Howdy! UT grad here, who wishes she still lived in Austin. I'm actually a Native Dallasite, so I've been jealous of The Hill Country my whole life. Thanks so much for the update on my Lone Star State. Have ya had any good Mexican food recently?
Helllllo from Oklahoma! Great post! I've been to Texas alot but never to Austin...now it's a must on my next stop to Texas! I hope you get lots of visitors today! Nice to meet ya!

I really love Blogging Around the World, 'cause we get to go to so many neat places! I lived in Texas years ago, but it's grown up so much since I was in high school! The Longhorns are still my favorite, though. Hook 'Em!
What a great honor you did for your state. You my dear could be a fabulous marketing/travel agent for TX. Thanks for sharing.
Great post...love the pictures...a lot transplanted Texans today...sounds like you're enjoying your surroundings. You've got a great name!!
Greetings from Wisconsin. Congratulations on your day in the sun at BATW!!
We just got back from Marble Falls! We evacuated there for the hurricane...took us about 15 hours to get there from where we live when it should have taken about 7...I hate evacuating! I saw the blog comments you left... I am going through them right now!
Hope you're having a fun BATW day. Great post. Loved the videos. Boy, those bluebonnets and indian paintbrush look great. I miss seeing those every Spring.
I miss my Texas; I grew up there, in College Station. Gig 'em Aggies! (Whoop!) Can't give any love to the longhorns, but I do love your blog!
Thanks for the slide show tour of Texas!
I've always wanted to visit Austin! A friend of mine got married there last month and I was just devastated that I couldn't go. Loved the videos!!
I've always wanted to visit Texas! Thanks for the tour!
What a fun post. I have a cousin in Texas but I have never been there, except the time my plane landed in Dallas enroute from Georgia to Seattle. Guess I can claim I have been there:}
I hope your day to shine was a great one.
Great post! My husband went to UT Austin (hook 'em horns!) and has always reminisced about that city. He had the longhorn sticker on his car. I remember the first time I saw someone do that sign at us on the freeway (reacting to the sticker)... I thought they were flashing the devil sign at me. I stared back at them in shock with my mouth hanging open. LOL. Then my husband kindly explained what they were doing.
This was a lot of fun to read! I would LOVE to go to that music festival some day. My Aunt and Uncle are moving their horse ranch to Texas soon, so maybe I actually will...
Great info!! Thanks for the tour. Sorry I missed posting yesterday, we just got power back up today and I am trying to get caught up on all the places. Stopping in from Louisiana from BATW.
I'm late from BATW, but I wanted to say hey from Mississippi!
That "Everywhere" song/video was great! Thanks for the hospitality!
I loved this! I was looking for my city in Texas in the song but didn't see it :( Those guitars are neat. I want to visit Austin!
Finally finished returning all the comments!!!
Once again, thanks for visiting...and come back anytimee!
Hi Rela! I missed the flight to Texas last week, but stopped by to say hi today. I see you went to hear Beth Moore--isn't she amazing? I would like to have just the energy in her little finger. :-)
I'm starting a new study tomorrow of hers--can't wait!
